A good experience for a young Wolves side, facing an established step 5 club in Athletic Newham (Formerly known as Lopes Tavares London).
An early knock for C. Trialist forced the Roms into an early change. After a slow start, the Kings took the lead early, slotting one past A. Trialist’s near post after a loss of possession in the midfield region.
The Wolves struggled to retain possession, causing a flurry of chances for Newham in the first half of the match, A. Trialist pulling off some superb low saves and keeping Romania in the game. The second half saw the introduction of Trialists I and J, replacing Trialists B and H.
The Wolves looked brighter in the final third throughout the second half, with Gyawu-Kyem causing some carnage down the right-hand side. Ultimately, the lack of shots from Romania meant minimal threat to the Athletic Newham goal. Two quick fire goals for the Kings put to bed the Wolves chances of a come back, increasing their lead to three. Trialists K, L and M got their chance to impress mid-way through the second half, with Henri Jackson seeing out the last ten minutes for a struggling Ionut Ilies, who had managed 80 minutes with a knock.
Overall, a disappointing performance all round for the Wolves, with a lot to work on as the players return to pre-season training on Tuesday. We now look forward and prepare for our second pre-season fixture, away to West Essex at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow.
